Fourth of July

O Beautiful.

For spacious skies.

And freedom everywhere.

O say can you see

And the rockets’ red glare

Gave proof through the night.

That we were alright.

Fourth of July.

According to Wikipedia, “Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth ofJuly, is a federal holiday in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies.”

And freedom.

Not to be taken lightly.

Or for granted.

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

Don’t leave home without them.

In the beginning, celebrations included a 13-gun salute.

For the Thirteen Colonies.

Held since 1785, the Fourth of July Parade in Bristol, Rhode Island is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States.

The battle at the Alamo happened 51 years later.

More freedom.

More independence.

Is freedom anything else than the right to live as we wish? Nothing else.”  [Epictetus]

No matter who, what, where, or when—

Freedom is a good thing.

Some think otherwise.

Greedy CEOs.

And Machiavellian politicians.

Whoever heard of the happily enslaved?

The gratefully oppressed?

Or cheerfully tortured?

Seems like every soul contains the seed of freedom.

Since every race, color, creed, and religion seek it.

Vie for it.

Fight for it.

Die for it.

Love does not claim possession, but gives freedom.”  [Rabindrinath Tagore]

Live, and let live.

That’s Mason.
